Simply stated, infrared is a light wave next to the colour red on the electromagnetic spectrum that is invisible to the human eye but felt as heat. In fact, you’ve likely come in contact with infrared before since it is commonly used in incubators for newborns, heat lamps and toasters.
Far Infrared ‘soft’ heat is calming and relaxing, just like feeling your body soak up the warmth of the sun on a cool day, and as your body becomes more accustomed to raising your core temperature on a regular basis you will sweat twice as much and detoxify more compared to a traditional sauna. You can read more here.
You will actually start your session when the sauna cabin temp is 45-60 degrees celsius and let your body warm up along with the cabin air temperature. For Sweat & Freeze sessions the sauna can be raised to 80 degrees celsius. The heater panels are already emitting far infrared energy at maximum capacity and your body is receiving all the infrared energy it can absorb. Take your time and enjoy yourself.
Clearlight Infrared™ saunas use only 20% of their energy for heating the air while the rest of the energy goes to heating the body allowing you to stay longer and maximise the healing benefits.
Both. Shower before to cleanse and wash off any make up etc and prep the body. Afterwards, shower to cool off the body.
Saunas are not advisable for women who are pregnant, anyone with a pacemaker (unless approved by a medical doctors) or anyone with an inability to sweat.
The good news is, infrared heat kills 99% of bacteria for a naturally sterile environment. But at Soma Haus, we go a step further and clean each suite with non-toxic cleaners. Our saunas are also made of Cedarwood which are anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.
If your goal is to lose weight, Infrared Sauna is a beneficial tool as it increases our metabolic rate, which helps us lose weight gradually in the long run. You will weigh less when you first step out of the Infrared Sauna. However, this weight loss is due to a loss of water in your body and will be back to normal once you rehydrate (as we should!). You can slowly increase the frequency of infrared use (as tolerated) to help aid you in your long-term weight-loss program.
You will definitely float due to the 300kg Epsom salt dissolved in the water. The water is below knee length and you are in control of your experience. The pod does not lock shut too. You are able to open it, stand up and step out anytime. The buoyancy of the water makes sinking an impossibility, so even if you fall asleep you will still be floating. The Epsom salt will not cause your skin to wrinkle when in the water for so long.
Of course! Floating may be one of the most relaxing things you can do to enhance your pregnancy experience as it is a brilliant way to relax in a weightless environment, particularly in the 3rd trimester when movement, sleeping and wellbeing can be a struggle. If you are in your first trimester or have any concerns, please consult your physician before coming in.
Floating is generally very safe for all. However, you should avoid floating if you have one or more of the following conditions:
Please consult your doctor first if you are ever in doubt. You will be requested to sign a detailed waiver form before your first float.
We keep our pod and water clean in 4 ways:
Furthermore, the high concentration of salt makes the environment very inhospitable for bacteria to grow
Due to the amount of salt, it will enable all body types to float naturally and easily. If you are tall or have a bigger frame, you may bump into the sides more than the average person initially. But with time, you master the ability to centre yourself easily in the pod.
The floating effect is physiological, your body will respond even if your brain and mind is busy. The relaxation response is automatic, it is an evolved response to floating, common to all humans, it will work even if your brain remains active in the float, as it can sometimes.
Regular float sessions that help with the relaxation response can help regulate sleep patterns, allowing your to sleep better during the night.
Normally food is not recommended. If you have to, have a lighter meal couple of hours before the session. Definitely no caffeine, alcohol or energy drinks. Water is perfectly fine!
Many people experience significant benefits on their first float, however like any form of active wellness, consistent and repeated usage amplifies the results. We find that after your second or third float, you’ll be able to relax both physically and mentally and you’ll really start to feel how awesome floating can be. For chronic conditions more sessions will likely be necessary as it can take time to resolve underlying issues effectively. To get the most out of your float experience, we recommend pairing it with some of our bespoke treatments. Approach our Educators for more.
NormaTec compression pants are a type of recovery technology that use pneumatic compression to aid in recovery after exercise or injury. They are designed to mimic the natural muscle pump mechanism, which helps to improve circulation and flush out metabolic waste products that can accumulate during exercise.
The NormaTec pants are made up of a series of compartments that inflate and deflate in a specific sequence, creating a “milking” action that helps to move fluid and waste products out of the limbs and back to the heart. This can help to reduce inflammation and soreness, improve circulation and oxygen delivery to the muscles, and speed up recovery after exercise or injury.
NormaTec compression pants can be used by a variety of athletes and fitness enthusiasts, including runners, cyclists, and weightlifters. They are also used in medical settings to aid in the treatment of circulatory disorders and lymphedema.
The recommended time to wear NormaTec compression pants varies depending on the individual and the specific application. Our sessions are 30 and 45 minutes.
Yes, you can even take a nap in these pants post meal! We recommend switching off all electronics and dedicate the session to yourself. Read a book, sip some tea or take a nap while you receive some well-deserved lymphatic drainage therapy.
This varies depending on the individual and the specific application. Some people may use them every day, while others may use them only a few times per week. It is important to listen to your body and use them as needed. Speak to our Educators or work with any of our therapists if you are looking to curate a wellness program.
